Press Register among Mobile media companies seeking to start TV broadcasting in 1950s

A Mobile Labor Journal photo from April 8, 1955, shows the groundbreaking ceremony for WKRG TV’s transmitter and remote studio on Cottage Hill. The labor newspaper believed WKRG’s winning a license over the Press Register’s bid represented a victory over the “monopoly newspaper.” Three years later, the Press Register became half owner of WKRG.
